Glory Days Grill in Bowie Hosts 4th Annual Contest

Fairfax, VA — Glory Days Grill, a national restaurant company based in Northern Virginia, is hosting its fourth annual Wing Eating Contest Championship at its Bowie restaurant, located at 15505 Annapolis Road, on Tuesday August 3, 2004. The Championship Contest will begin at 9 PM. Competing for the cash prize of $1000 are last year's finalists, Pete Corbino of Falls Church, Virginia and Gentleman Joe Menchetti of Connecticut, who is ranked sixth in the world according to A.I.C.E (Association of Independent Competitive Eaters). They will be joined by the 33 first, second and third placed finalists of the Glory Days Grill Wing Eating Qualifying Contests that took place in the Maryland restaurants on July 20, 2004 and in the Virginia restaurants on July 27, 2004.

Last year's Championship, held in Fairfax, hosted 26 contestants and was a nail-biter to the finish, ending in a two-minute eat-off between Corbino and Menchetti. Both contestants had tied for first at 55 wings a piece in a five-minute heat. Menchetti pulled ahead, consuming 27 wings in the two-minute eat-off compared to Cobino's 18 wings.

Says president and co-founder Jeff Newman, "We are known for our Glory Wings, and this annual contest is a way to celebrate our great food with the great sport of competitive eating. We are hoping our contest will grow each year to attract more competitive eaters from around the region and even the country."
